While time remains, you have the widest range of options.

Apply for extension early

An extension must be applied for before the expiry date. There is a set window, so check the window for your own status with 1345 or HiKorea.

Do not leave it to the expiry date itself. If appointments are backed up, you will not get in that day.

You need an appointment

• Book through HiKorea, www.hikorea.go.kr.
• Appointments are often weeks out — which is exactly why you book early.
• Some applications are handled online only. Check on HiKorea.

It depends on your status

• E-9 and the Employment Permit System — your relationship with the employer and any workplace changes are reviewed together. If there are problems such as unpaid wages, speak to 1350 first.
• F-6 marriage migration — the marriage and living situation are checked. If the marriage is in difficulty, do not decide alone — consult 1345 or a migrant women's organisation.
• D-2 study — enrolment status matters. Leave of absence or expulsion affects your stay immediately.
• Other statuses — requirements differ. Tell 1345 your status and check.

If something has changed, don't delay

A job change, divorce, leaving school, the company closing — such changes often carry their own reporting deadlines. Leaving them works against you later. Ask 1345 as soon as it changes.
