Extending an E-9 stay and re-employment
E-9 comes with a fixed contract period. To keep working you need a renewed contract with your employer and an extension of stay before the expiry date.
Who needs this
- E-9 workers whose contract period is ending
- People staying with the same employer (re-employment)
Steps
- Confirm the employer wants to renew. Start the conversation before expiry.
- The employer applies to the employment centre for an extended employment permit.
- Sign a new standard labour contract. Check wages and hours again.
- Apply for the extension of stay on HiKorea.
- Check the result and the new expiry date on your card.
What you need
- Passport, Alien Registration Card
- The new standard labour contract
- Employment permit documents (prepared by the employer)
- The fee — check the current amount on HiKorea
Where to go
- Your employment centre and immigration office
- 1350 labour counselling (interpretation) · 1345 Immigration Contact Center
Questions people ask
My employer won't renew. You can move to the workplace-change process. The job-search window is limited, so contact the employment centre right away.
How long can I stay in total? It depends on your initial period and re-employment. Check your own case with EPS or 1345.
Take care
If the date passes without an extension you are overstaying. Even if your employer says they will "handle it", check the progress yourself.
