Extending your period of stay
Finish your extension application before the expiry date on your card. Even one day over counts as overstaying and follows you through later applications.
Who needs this
- Any long-term resident whose permit is about to expire
- This is for keeping the same status. Changing status is a different application.
Steps
- Check the expiry date on your Alien Registration Card and start early — appointment slots fill up.
- Apply online or book a visit on HiKorea. Some statuses can be done fully online.
- Prepare the documents for your status.
- Submit and pay the fee.
- Keep the receipt. In some cases it covers your stay while the application is reviewed.

- Proof that your status continues — employment certificate and contract, enrolment certificate, spouse's documents

I changed jobs — can I still extend? Some statuses require reporting the workplace change first. Applying out of order can get your case rejected.
