File a complaint with the labour office

Filing is free. There is no reason to pay a broker a fee.

Where to file

• By phone: 1350 (Ministry of Employment and Labour). You can request an interpreter.
• Online: the ministry's petition portal minwon.moel.go.kr — file under unpaid wages.
• In person: the regional labour office covering the company's address, not your home.
• Accompaniment: ask a local migrant workers' support centre or 1577-0071 to come with you.

What to write

1. Your name, contact details, nationality
2. Company name, address, employer's name
3. The period you worked (from ___ to ___)
4. What work you did
5. The wages owed — it need not be exact. "Unpaid since the month of ___" is enough.
6. What you have already demanded (dates you sent messages)

Asking for interpretation

• Call 1345 and they can join the call as an interpreter.
• Tell the labour office in advance that you need an interpreter and one can be assigned.
• You can also go with a support centre caseworker.

There is a time limit

The right to claim wages expires after a certain period, and it becomes hard to claim once too long has passed. Check the exact limit with 1350 and file without delay.
