Reading your residence card

The front of the card shows the expiry of your period of stay — usually the date beside "Period of Sojourn."

• Not yet passed — you still have time. Go to the next step.
• Today or tomorrow — get advice right now.
• Already passed — there are still options. Go to the step after next.

If you have no card or cannot find the date, ask 1345.

You can ask anonymously

1345 (Immigration Contact Centre) will advise you without you giving your name. It supports 20 languages.

Ask "this is my situation — what happens now?" You will not be penalised for having asked.

Checking online

At HiKorea, www.hikorea.go.kr, you can look up your status and remaining period through the e-government menu after verifying your identity.

Note these down now

Preparing this before you call makes it much faster.

1. Your status (visa type) — E-9, F-6, D-2 and so on, printed on the card.
2. The expiry date
3. Whether you are working, and where
4. What has changed recently — a job move, divorce, leaving school, the company closing
5. Any documents you received — their name and date
