Prenatal tests and regular check-ups

Batay sa Agosto 2026Awtomatikong salinPinagmulan: 보건복지부 아이사랑6 tingin

During pregnancy you have check-ups at set intervals. They confirm the condition of mother and baby.

Main tests

  • Blood and urine tests — anaemia, blood sugar, infections
  • Ultrasound — the baby's growth and position
  • Screening for foetal abnormalities
  • Gestational diabetes test
  • Hepatitis B, syphilis, HIV and other infection tests
  • Blood pressure and weight — at every visit

Intervals and items depend on the week and the mother's condition. Follow your doctor's guidance.

Available at the public health centre

  • Basic early pregnancy tests (often free)
  • The maternity handbook
  • Folic acid and iron supplements
  • Antenatal classes
  • Additional local government support

Steps

  1. Get your check-up schedule from the obstetrician.
  2. Register at the public health centre and take the free tests.
  3. Pay with the National Happiness card.
  4. Attend every check-up. Do not skip any.
  5. Have follow-up tests if anything is abnormal.

Go to hospital immediately if

  • Bleeding
  • Severe abdominal pain
  • The baby's movements suddenly decrease
  • Your waters break
  • Severe headache, blurred vision, swollen hands and feet (possible pre-eclampsia)
  • Fever

In these cases go to hospital even at night, or call 119.

Where to go

  • Your obstetrics clinic
  • Your nearest public health centre
  • 119 emergencies
  • 1577-1366 Danuri Helpline (13 languages, 24 hours)
  • Your local Family Center

Questions people ask

Work stops me attending check-ups. Time for prenatal check-ups can be guaranteed. Tell the company, and if refused get advice from 1350.

I can't follow the explanations in Korean. Ask a Family Center for accompaniment with an interpreter. You can also ask 1577-1366 in advance.

The test costs are a burden. Make full use of the National Happiness card and free tests at the health centre.

I lift heavy things at work. You can request adjustment of dangerous work during pregnancy. Get a doctor's note and give it to the company.

Take care

Bleeding or severe pain means going to hospital, whatever the hour. "Let's wait until morning" is the most dangerous choice. Save your clinic's night contact number in advance.
