If you lose your wallet or cards

Block the cards first. A large amount can be spent within minutes.

The order

1. Report the loss to your card companies — each has a 24-hour centre. You can also freeze cards instantly in the bank app.
2. Check your bank account. If there are unusual transactions, report to 1332 and ask the bank to stop payments.
3. Report the loss or theft to the police — 112 or a nearby station.
4. Search the lost property portal at lost112.go.kr
5. Reissue your ID. See the lost-arc and lost-passport guides.
6. Cancel transport cards and memberships too.

Questions people ask

Payments have already been made. Tell the card company immediately and report fraudulent use. You may need the police report receipt.

All my ID was in the wallet. Use your passport if you have it; if neither remains, contact your embassy and immigration separately.

Can I get the cash back? Cash is hard to recover. But wallets are sometimes handed in, so check the lost property office.

The finder is demanding money. Demanding a reward is not legitimate. Ask the police.

Take care

Don't carry all your original ID in one wallet. You need your ARC, but keeping your passport at home and carrying a copy is safer. Save your card companies' numbers in your phone.
