Your right to a payslip

Batay sa Agosto 2026Awtomatikong salinPinagmulan: 고용노동부3 tingin

A payslip is a right, not a favour. The employer must provide one.

What a payslip must show

  • Total wages
  • Base pay and each allowance — overtime, night and holiday work
  • How it was calculated — the number of overtime hours and so on
  • Deduction items and amounts — tax, the four insurances, anything else
  • The amount actually paid

Why it matters

  • It is the strongest evidence in a wage dispute.
  • It is the only record that shows minimum wage violations, unpaid allowances and improper deductions.
  • It becomes the basis for calculating severance pay and unemployment benefit later.

What to do

  1. Get a payslip every month — paper, email, text or app, any form.
  2. Photograph it immediately and store it separately. Company apps can become inaccessible after you leave.
  3. Compare it with the amount deposited.
  4. If they differ, ask the company at once and keep a record of that exchange.

If they won't give one

  1. Request it by text or email — that leaves a record of the request.
  2. If they still refuse, consult 1350 or report it to the labour office.
  3. Don't give up without a payslip. Attendance records, bank statements and colleagues' testimony can also support a claim. See unpaid-wages-evidence.

Questions people ask

It's in Korean and I don't understand the items. Photograph it and take it to 1350 or a migrant workers' support centre and they will explain.

The payslip and my bank deposit don't match. Ask the company in writing about the difference and the reason. If it can't be explained, it may be unpaid wages.

I'm paid in cash so there's no record. A payslip is required for cash payment too. Note the date and amount yourself each time and keep photographs.

I've left the job and need old payslips. You can request them from the company — which is why saving them while employed matters so much.

Take care

Save each payslip to both your own phone and your email as soon as you get it. Losing access to the company system after leaving means losing the evidence. The same goes for your employment contract.
