Employment support for people with disabilities

Disability does not mean you cannot work. There are bodies to help you find the right job.

Support available

• Vocational counselling and assessment — working out what suits you.
• Vocational training — learning a skill. See vocational-training.
• Job placement — connecting you with employers.
• Work assistant services — a person to support you in your tasks.
• Assistive technology support — equipment you need to work.
• Workplace adaptation support — help continues after you start.

How to use it

1. Contact 1588-1519 (Korea Employment Agency for Persons with Disabilities) or visit a branch.
2. Having disability registration makes access easier. See disability-registration.
3. Take the vocational counselling and assessment.
4. You are connected to training or job placement.
5. You can request adaptation support after starting work too.

Worth knowing at work

• Discrimination on grounds of disability is prohibited. See discrimination-report.
• You may request reasonable accommodation — adjustments to the environment or way of working.
• If you face unfair treatment, consult 1350 or 1331 (National Human Rights Commission).
• Where the disability arose from an industrial accident, the Workers' Compensation Service also supports return to work. 1588-0075. See rehabilitation.

Can foreign residents use it? It depends on disability registration and residence status. Check with 1588-1519 and 129.

I'm not registered as disabled. Check the registration procedure first — ask at your community centre. See disability-registration.

Take care

Anyone charging money to "find you a job for disabled people" is running a scam. Agency counselling and placement are free. If you suffered disadvantage in recruitment because of disability, keep records and consult 1331.
