The duty to report a change of residence

When you move you must report your change of residence. There is a deadline.

Why it matters

• Missing the deadline brings a fine.
• You will miss important post from immigration.
• It can count against you in later residence status reviews.
• A correct address is what connects health insurance, your children's schooling and administrative services.

Where to do it

There are two routes.

1. Your local community service centre — often processed together with the move-in report. The most convenient option.
2. Your local immigration office or HiKorea e-services.

Even if the community centre handled it, always confirm the change of residence was actually recorded.

Steps

1. Go to the community centre on moving day or that week.
2. Submit your lease contract and Alien Registration Card.
3. File the move-in report and the change of residence together.
4. Confirm the result — it is noted on the back of the card or recorded in the system.

Questions people ask

How many days do I have? It is set by law and can be amended. Confirm the current deadline with 1345. Either way, doing it in the week you move is safest.

I live in a dormitory or company accommodation. In principle you report where you actually live. If you don't know the address, ask your company or the manager.

The contract isn't in my name. There may be another way to verify your residence. Explain the situation at the community centre or to 1345.

I've already missed the deadline. Report immediately anyway. The longer you wait, the worse it is.

Never report an address that isn't where you live. A false report goes beyond a fine and can affect your residence status. If your situation is complicated, don't delay — ask 1345 first.
