What the KIIP programme is

The Korea Immigration & Integration Program (KIIP) is the single most practically useful scheme for residence and naturalisation procedures.

What it is

A staged course in Korean language and understanding Korean society, taught at institutions designated by the Ministry of Justice. Completion brings benefits in several procedures.

Why it helps

• Advantages in nationality procedures, such as exemption from the naturalisation written test.
• It can be accepted as proof of Korean ability for permanent residence (F-5) applications.
• It earns points under schemes such as the F-2 points system.
• It can count in your favour in change and extension of status.

Questions people ask

Does it cost money? There may be some costs such as textbooks, but the teaching itself is often cheap or free. Check with the institution.

Can I attend while working? Some institutions run evening and weekend classes. Search by area and time on Socinet.

I don't speak any Korean. The placement test assigns you an appropriate level. You can start from the beginning.

I have no one to look after my child. Some courses at family centres provide childcare alongside. Ask them.

Take care

There is an attendance requirement. Too many absences mean the course is not recognised as completed. Check the timetable works for you before applying.
