Applying for an F-6 visa from abroad

Batay sa Agosto 2026Awtomatikong salinPinagmulan: 법무부 하이코리아1 tingin

Before entering Korea you must obtain the visa at a Korean embassy or consulate in your country. It takes time because of document review and an interview.

Who this covers

  • Spouses who have registered the marriage with a Korean national but have not yet entered Korea

Steps

  1. Complete the marriage registration in both countries.
  2. The Korean spouse applies for a certificate of visa eligibility in Korea, or you apply directly at the embassy.
  3. Submit documents and attend the interview. You will be asked how you met and how you communicate.
  4. Receive the visa and enter Korea.
  5. Register as a foreign resident after entry.

What you need

  • Passport, marriage certificate
  • The Korean spouse's family relation and income documents
  • Evidence of your relationship (photos, message records)
  • Proof of Korean language ability or a recognised alternative
  • Health certificate and any other documents the embassy requires

Where to go

  • The Korean embassy or consulate in your country

Questions people ask

What do they ask at the interview? How you met, basic facts about each other, how you communicate. Answer truthfully.

What if it is refused? Check the reason, address it and reapply. Ask 1345 for advice.

Take care

Beware brokers who charge to "get you through" or make you memorise answers. False statements are grounds for refusal and entry bans.
