Moving and filing your move-in report
There are things to do on moving day. Delay causes problems with deposit protection and your post.
On moving day or that week
- Move-in report — at your community service centre or on Gov24 www.gov.kr
- Fixed date stamp — on the lease contract. The key to deposit protection. See deposit-protection.
- Change of residence report — updating the address on your Alien Registration Card, via HiKorea, immigration or the community centre. There is a deadline.
- Transfer utility accounts — electricity, gas, water. See utilities-setup.
- Move your internet connection — apply to your provider.
- Change your address everywhere — banks, insurance, telecom, NHIS (1577-1000), pension (1355).
Steps
- Check the new property's register before moving. See lease-contract.
- Take the contract to the community centre on moving day.
- Do the move-in report and fixed date stamp together.
- File the change of residence report, ideally the same day.
- Settle the utilities — the final bills at the old place.
- Notify everywhere that holds your address.
What you need
- The original lease contract
- Alien Registration Card
- A small fee
Where to go

Questions people ask
What if I don't report the change of residence? Missing the deadline can bring a fine, and failing to receive post leads to other problems. Check the deadline with 1345.
Are the move-in report and change of residence the same? They are often linked, but confirm both were done at the community centre.
My landlord says not to file the move-in report. A serious warning sign — it may be an attempt to block deposit protection. See the deposit-protection guide.
Do goshiwons and dormitories need reporting? In principle you report where you actually live. Explain your situation at the community centre and ask.
Take care
Do the move-in report and fixed date stamp as early as possible. If the landlord takes a loan in the meantime, your deposit drops down the order. In principle, do it on moving day.
