ATMs let you bank outside branch hours. You can switch the screen to English.

Steps

  1. Insert your card.
  2. Choose the language. Many machines have an "English" button in a corner.
  3. Choose what you need.
    • 출금 (withdrawal) — take money out
    • 입금 (deposit) — put money in
    • 이체 (transfer) — send to another account
    • 조회 (inquiry) — check your balance
  4. Enter your PIN. Cover the keypad with your hand.
  5. Enter the amount.
  6. Take your card, receipt and cash.

When fees apply

  • Outside business hours (evenings, weekends, holidays)
  • Another bank's ATM
  • Convenience store ATMs
  • Your own bank during business hours is usually free

What you need

  • A check card or bankbook
  • Your PIN

Where to go

  • ATMs at branches, convenience stores and subway stations
  • The customer centre number on the screen if the card is swallowed or the machine errors
  • 1332 Financial Supervisory Service

Questions people ask

My card didn't come back out. Don't leave. Call the customer centre number shown on the screen or machine immediately.

No cash came out but it says withdrawn. Keep the receipt and report it to the bank's customer centre at once. It is usually resolved after checking.

I entered the wrong PIN three times. The card locks. Unlock it at a branch or in the app.

Do overseas cards work? They work at ATMs marked "Global" or with international card logos. Fees can be high.

Take care

If a stranger offers to help you at an ATM, refuse — it is a tactic to get your card and PIN. If someone on the phone tells you to withdraw and send money, it is voice phishing without exception. Hang up and call 112.
