Claiming industrial accident insurance
If you were injured at work, industrial accident insurance can cover your treatment. Even if your employer says "let's just use health insurance", a work injury should be handled as an industrial accident.
Who needs this
- Anyone injured in an accident at work
- Anyone who developed an illness because of their work
- Commuting accidents are covered in some cases
- Your visa status does not matter for the claim
Steps
- Get treatment first. Call 119 in an emergency. A designated hospital makes the later steps easier.
- Tell your employer about the accident. Their cooperation is not required for you to claim.
- File the medical care benefit application with COMWEL, with a doctor's opinion.
- Wait for the review.
- Receive treatment costs and absence benefits once approved. Check current rates with COMWEL.
Documents
- Medical care benefit application (COMWEL form)
- Doctor's opinion from the treating hospital
- A written account of how the accident happened
- Witness statements, photos, work records if available

Questions people ask
My employer refuses to process it. Their consent is not required. You can file with COMWEL directly.
Can I be fired for claiming? Dismissal during treatment and for a period afterwards is restricted by law. Call 1350 if you receive such a notice.
I already used health insurance. It can be adjusted later if the injury is recognised. Keep your medical records.
