The first-meeting voucher

The first-meeting voucher is a one-off payment for a newborn. It is loaded as points onto the National Happiness card.

• Children whose birth has been registered
• Eligibility follows the scheme rules — check with 129 or your community centre

Steps

1. Register the birth.
2. Get a National Happiness card from a bank or card company.
3. Apply for the voucher.
   • Online: Bokjiro www.bokjiro.go.kr
   • In person: your community service centre
   • It can be applied for at the same time as the birth registration.
4. The points are loaded onto the card.
5. Use it before the deadline. Unused points expire.

Where you can use it

Postnatal care centres, hospitals, pharmacies, supermarkets, baby goods shops and most other places. Entertainment and gambling businesses are excluded.

How much is it? It depends on the year and birth order. Check with 129 or Bokjiro.

Is there a deadline? Yes. Remaining points disappear after it. Check the deadline as soon as you receive the card and note it.

Can I get cash instead? No. It can only be spent as card points.

What about twins? It is paid per child. Check with the community centre.

Take care

Points are often lost by missing the deadline. Check it the moment you get the card and set a phone reminder.
