Disability registration

Disability registration gives access to medical, welfare and mobility support schemes.

The process (outline)

1. Apply at your local community service centre and receive the application form and guidance.
2. Obtain a disability diagnosis at a designated medical institution. Required tests and observation periods differ by type.
3. Submit the medical certificate and test results.
4. The National Pension Service assesses the degree of disability.
5. You are notified of the result and, if registered, receive a welfare card (disability registration card).

What is provided depends on degree of disability and income. Confirm with 129 and your community centre.

For foreign residents

Whether you can register depends on your residence status. Some statuses such as permanent residence (F-5) and marriage migrant (F-6) may allow it. Always confirm for your own status with the community centre and 129. Even where registration is not possible, other medical and welfare services may be available.

Diagnosis often requires a designated institution and a set period of treatment or observation first. Applying suddenly does not produce an immediate result, so check the process and timescales with your community centre first and prepare.
