Handling an insurance claim after an accident
Insurance claims follow an order. Above all, do not settle before treatment ends.
Steps
- Report the accident to the insurer. It is also filed with the other party's insurer. Get the claim number.
- Get treatment at a hospital. Give the claim number and it is billed to insurance.
- Submit the documents — medical certificate, receipts, accident confirmation.
- The fault ratio is determined. Photos and dashcam footage are the basis.
- Settle — after treatment has finished.
- Check what the settlement covers — treatment costs, loss of earnings, compensation for pain.
What to know
- Settling during treatment costs you. Additional claims are hard if complications remain.
- You can dispute the fault ratio. Photos and witnesses are the basis.
- You can claim for time unable to work. Prepare your payslips.
- For accidents at or commuting to work, also consider industrial accident insurance.

Questions people ask

The amount seems low. You can complain to 1332 or get advice from 132.
It happened on my commute. Separately from car insurance, an industrial accident claim may be possible. Ask 1588-0075 which route is better for you.
I can't complete the forms in Korean. Ask a support centre to accompany you, or use interpretation.
Take care
Check whether the settlement says you waive all future claims. Signing that means you cannot claim later even if complications appear. Get free advice from 132 before signing.
