Getting internet installed at home
You apply to a provider and an engineer comes to install. A long contract means a large penalty if you cancel early.
Steps
- Check whether the place already has internet. Studios and goshiwons often include it.
- Compare providers and plans — internet only, internet plus TV, bundled with mobile.
- Check the contract length and penalty. Avoid a contract longer than your stay.
- Apply and book an installation date.
- The engineer installs it, usually in one to two hours.
- Change the Wi-Fi password.

What if I move? Apply for a transfer installation. The contract continues. Tell the provider in advance.
I have to leave the country mid-contract. Showing proof of departure (a ticket or planned departure) can waive or reduce the penalty. Ask the customer centre.
Is there an installation fee? There can be an installation fee and equipment rental. Ask for the total when applying.
They offer a gift for signing up. Gifts usually come with a long contract. Judge by the total cost.
Take care
Get the contract and photograph it. It must state the contract period, monthly fee and penalty. Verbal promises are hard to prove later.
