I haven't been paid

Step 1 of 6

Gather your evidence

Do this now

  1. 1Photograph every document you already have
  2. 2Write down your hours every day from today
  3. 3Save your conversations with the employer

What to prepare

  • Employment contract
  • Payslips
  • Bank deposit records
  • Attendance records (photos, texts, apps)
  • Texts or messenger chats with the employer
  • Contact details of coworkers

You can claim wages even without a contract. Anything that shows you actually worked can serve as evidence.

Don't give up because you have nothing. If you start recording from today, that becomes evidence too.

What counts as evidence

  • Contract and payslips — the strongest. Photograph them.
  • Bank deposit records — they show what you were paid and when.
  • Attendance records — fingerprint scanner photos, work logs, transit card history, photos of the worksite.
  • Texts and messenger chats — messages telling you to come to work, or putting off your pay.
  • Coworkers' statements — get their contact details now.
  • Photos of work clothes, ID badges, entry passes.

Start recording today

Every day, write down the date, start time, finish time, what you did, and who you worked with. A phone memo is fine. Your own notes are accepted when they line up with other material.

Your visa status does not matter

Even if you are undocumented, you have the right to be paid for work you did. There are arrangements so that filing a complaint does not hand you straight to enforcement. If you are worried, ask 1577-0071 or a migrant support organisation before you file.

Say it like this

  • 임금이 밀렸습니다. 언제 주실 수 있나요?

imgeum-i millyeotseumnida. eonje jusil su innayo?

My wages are overdue. When can you pay me?

  • 근로계약서를 한 부 주세요.

    geullo-gyeyakseo-reul han bu juseyo.

Please give me a copy of my employment contract.

  • 급여명세서를 받을 수 있을까요?

    geub-yeo-myeongseseo-reul badeul su isseulkkayo?

    Could I have my payslip?

Take care

If the employer tells you to delete records, don't. Keep evidence on your own phone, not a company computer.
