Men oiladagi zoʻravonlikka duch kelyapman
Step 6 of 6
Starting again
Do this now
- 1Ask a multicultural family support centre about independence programmes
- 2Do get psychological counselling
- 3Raise your children's schooling in the same conversation
What to prepare
- ID
- Children's documents
- A note of the work or training you want
- Housing support application papers
- A counselling appointment
This is the move from surviving to living. Taking time is fine.
Where to get help
- Multicultural family support centres — Korean classes, vocational training, job placement, help with children's studies.
- Women's Re-employment Centres (Saeil) — support for women returning to work.
- Community centres — basic livelihood, emergency welfare and housing support.
- Migrant women's organisations — they can connect you with others who have been through the same.
Housing
- There are schemes to arrange somewhere to live after the shelter. Ask your shelter caseworker.
- Rental housing and housing cost support can be discussed at the community centre.
- If signing a contract alone is hard, ask a support organisation to come with you.
Your children
- Transferring schools and settling in — ask the multicultural centre and the school counsellor.
- Children need counselling too. A child who witnessed violence is affected even when they don't show it.
- Check what support you can receive — child support, child allowance — at the community centre.
Looking after your mind
Many people find things get harder after they get out. That is normal.
- Not sleeping, startling easily, not wanting to do anything comes from what happened, not from weakness.
- 1577-0199 mental health crisis line (24 hours)
- Shelters and support organisations can arrange free counselling.
- Ask for counselling with interpretation. You should be able to speak in your own language.
It was never your fault
Getting this far is already doing well.
