Taking free Korean classes
Most Korean classes are free. You do not need to pay to learn.
Where to learn
- Family Centers — classes by level and home visits. Aimed at marriage migrants, but many accept other foreign residents.
- Korea Immigration and Integration Program (KIIP) — a Ministry of Justice course. Completing it helps with permanent residence and naturalisation.
- Support centres for foreign workers — often weekend classes.
- Local governments, lifelong learning centres, libraries — free courses for residents.
- Online — Danuri, the Social Integration Network, EPS-TOPIK materials.
- Religious and civic organisations — in most areas.
Steps
- Find a nearby provider. Call 1577-1366 or a Family Center.
- Take a level test so you are placed in the right class.
- Register and check the timetable.
- Attend consistently. Some courses require attendance to complete.

Questions people ask
I work and can't go on weekdays. There are weekend and evening classes. Support centres for foreign workers usually open on Sundays.
I have no one to look after my child. Some places provide childcare during class, and you can apply for home visits.
Are the materials free too? The class may be free while materials cost a small amount. Ask in advance.
Can I prepare for TOPIK? Some places run TOPIK preparation classes. Ask the centre.
Take care
Don't be taken in by private ads promising faster learning for a fee. There are plenty of free courses. KIIP only counts if taken at an officially designated provider.
